KARNEVAL IN COLOGNE

[Intro] [Diaries] [Map] [Neuss] [Hürth] [Cologne]

There are at least 2 large attractions in Cologne. One, which is there all year, is the Mammoth Cologne cathedral. The other, during the winter, is the Cologne Karneval. The Speilmannszug Minnesota group visited specifically for Karneval but were duly impressed by the cathedral. If there had been more time, there are (no doubt) many other things to see because Cologne is one of the oldest Roman cities in northern Europe with a great deal of historical significance. The group attended two events in Cologne

  • The Alt-Weiber Street Party on Thursday
  • The Large Cologne Rosenmontag Parade on Monday

The Alt-Weiber Street party lasted from about 11 in the morning until about 5 in the afternoon and included several music groups and several karneval clubs marching by and playing music. A great deal of time was spent visiting with people and enjoying the great Cologne beer.

One of the music groups that performed for part of the afternoon was the Fantastic Fanfare. We were guests of the Fantastic Fanfare and Thomas Klann who is a member of that music  group and also a member of Speilmannszug Minnesota.

Pictured below on the left are three members of the Fantastic Fanfare and on the right is Thomas and a Monkey.

Pictured below on the left is the Cologne Cathedral and on the right is one of the lead floats in the long parade on Monday.
